Going My Way is hosted by Father Chris Hickey accompanied by his mentor, turned sidekick Father Paul Rouse on piano. After the two open the show with some dialogue and a song, the scene shifts to an interview segment with Father Hickey and a different guest each episode. After what is usually a fun-filled conversation, the guest and Father Hickey join Father Rouse at the piano for a few songs to show off their singing abilities and more humor.
The show premiered in the spring of 2006, as a way to exhibit the good work of priests in a somewhat different light. Father Hickey said he began hosting the series “to show how fun the priesthood can be. We are not just the guys who say Mass on Sundays that you say hi and goodbye to.” From the very beginning, the series became a viewer favorite, with nothing but positive comments coming in to CatholicTV proving Father Chris’ and Father Paul’s efforts have paid off.
From the beginning, the hope was the show would become CatholicTV’s version of The Merv Griffin Show. One of the biggest compliments it received was when Comedy Central’s Stephen Colbert called it “the Letterman of Catholic television” proving Father Chris’ humor shines, as he puts questions to his guests as well as Letterman or Leno would. New shows for the series are recorded periodically throughout the year, and with the pool of guest “talent” expanded to outside the presbyterate, the hope is Going My Way, keeps going for years to come.
